HINO Lineup: Which is best for your business?
Posted on September 9, 2026
Every job is different, and so is the truck you need to get it done. The HINO lineup includes four models — the L6, L7, L8 and XL8 — each designed to handle a different level of work.
Whether you’re looking for a versatile everyday work truck or something built for the toughest jobs, there’s a HINO for it. Here’s a quick look at where each model fits.
HINO L6 — Versatile Everyday Work
The HINO L6 is a great fit for businesses looking for a versatile medium-duty truck that can handle a wide range of everyday applications. With GVWR configurations starting at 25,500 lb, the L6 is well suited to local delivery, distribution, utility and general vocational work.
The L6 is powered by the Cummins B6.7 engine, available in 240 hp and 260 hp configurations, and paired with an Allison automatic transmission. It’s a practical choice when you need a dependable truck that can handle the day-to-day without stepping up to a heavier-duty model.
Best for: Local delivery, distribution, utility and general vocational applications.
HINO L7 — Heavier Loads & Vocational Work
Need a little more from your truck? The HINO L7 steps up to a 33,000-lb GVWR, giving you more capacity for heavier loads and more demanding applications.
With a 260-hp Cummins B6.7 engine and Allison 2500 RDS transmission, the L7 is well suited to construction, landscaping, utility, heavier delivery and other vocational applications where having additional capacity matters.
If you’re regularly hauling heavier payloads or installing a more substantial body or equipment, the L7 gives you the extra capability without moving into the HINO XL Series.
Best for: Heavier delivery, construction, landscaping, utility and vocational work.
HINO L8 — Heavy-Duty Applications
The L8 takes the L Series a step further, with a 35,000-lb GVWR and the 260-hp Cummins B6.7 engine. It’s built for businesses that need a truck capable of handling demanding applications and heavier work day after day.
The L8 comes standard with full air brakes and Hendrickson air suspension, making it well suited to applications where durability, capacity and performance are important.
For businesses that need more truck than the L7 offers but don't need to make the jump to a Class 8 truck, the L8 is a strong option.
Best for: Heavy-duty vocational work, construction, hauling and demanding applications.
HINO XL8 — The Toughest Jobs
When the job gets seriously heavy, the HINO XL8 brings a whole different level of capability.
The XL8 is HINO’s heavy-duty Class 8 straight truck, with GVWR configurations ranging from 53,200 to 54,000 lb. It’s powered by the Cummins L9 engine, with ratings from 300 to 360 hp and up to 1,150 lb.-ft. of torque, and is equipped with an Allison 3000 Series transmission.
The XL8 is built for demanding applications where additional capacity, power and durability are a must. It’s a strong fit for heavy vocational work, construction, towing and specialized applications that call for serious capability.
Best for: Heavy-duty vocational work, construction, towing and the most demanding applications.
So, Which HINO Is Right for You?
The right truck comes down to the work you need it to do.
If you’re looking for a versatile medium-duty truck for everyday work, the HINO L6 is a great place to start. Need more capacity? The HINO L7 gives you 33,000 lb of GVWR and added capability for heavier vocational applications. The HINO L8 takes things up another notch for heavy-duty work, while the HINO XL8 is built for jobs that demand Class 8 capability.
And remember, choosing a truck isn't just about the number on the door. Body configuration, payload, wheelbase, application and how you plan to use the truck all play a role.
